To participate in NEIS you must:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be receiving a qualifying allowance or benefit from Centrelink.
- Not be an undischarged bankrupt.
- Not have received NEIS assistance in the previous 2 years.
- Have the technical skills to operate the business.
Your business must:
- Have never operated commercially before.
- Be independent, lawful and reputable.
- Not duplicate an existing business unless an unsatisfied demand for your product or service can be shown.
- Not involve the purchase or take-over of an existing business.
Job seekers in receipt of the following Centrelink allowances or pensions may be eligible for NEIS:
NSA - Newstart Allowance
YTH - Youth Allowance
SKA - Sickness Allowance
SNS - Special Benefit
PTA - Partner Allowance
PPP - Parenting Payment Partnered
WDA - Widow Allowance

DSP - Disability Support Pension
