The NEIS (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) can assist you put business ideas into practice.

NEIS is a comprehensive program of assistance providing small business training, income assistance and business mentoring support during the first year of your business.

NEIS includes:

  • Training in small business management, business skills and business plan development.
  • Income maintenance (NEIS Allowance) replacing Newstart allowance for up to 52 weeks.
  • Business advice and mentor support during the first year of business operation.

During your training, you will receive help to develop a business plan which will need to be approved as viable before you can start your business with assistance under NEIS. If you already have business management skills or qualifications, your business plan may be eligible for consideration without undertaking the formal training.

The development of a business plan during NEIS training will assist you if you need to approach banks or credit unions for finance. However, NEIS will not provide you with start-up funds in the form of loans or grants.

Develop your Business Plan in a way that suits you best and gain Certificate IV in Business (Small Business Management) with 6 weeks full time training or 13 weeks part time training (where you cannot attend a full time course).
